Teacup Project

I found this the other day on Pinterest.  Don't they look great!???

It just looks like so much fun - I really want to try it, so hopefully the kids and I will get a chance on the school holidays... after our trip to the big smoke!

See you all back here on the 24th.

maypole memories

Do you ever have childhood memories that just pop into your head???

Recently I recalled "dancing the maypole" for some obscure reason.  The years 6 and 7 girls were the lucky ones and I remember feeling so excited when my classmates and I were finally old enough to be the maypole dancers in our primary school ... way back when...

Does anyone even do the maypole anymore?  It seems so old fashioned just thinking about it, but how lovely it must have been for mum and dad to watch us.   So very sweet and genteel - right up there with playing a game of croquet on the lawn with cucumber sandwiches...

I remember, depending on the dance, different patterns were created with all the pretty ribbons  around the maypole so it was very important not to make a mistake in the dance.

I found this picture on google and while it's not Australian does gives you the general idea.  Must see if mum's got any photos of my sister and I 'doing the Maypole' in her archives - would be great to show our children how cool their mum was ... back in the '70's.

Incidentally ... would love to hear if anyone else has danced the Maypole before!

good day for kite flying ...

It's blowing a gale here today.
Good for:  kite flying/drying clothes on the line.
Not so good for:  wearing pretty frocks at a garden party.

Think I'll spend the rest of the day in my studio, kitchen (feed the hungry troops) then venture out later this afternoon to grout one of my mosaic pots.

Have a nice Saturday ...

fishing ... camping ... endurance test

... so anyone who knows me, knows that I am not a fan of camping...

I often tell my husband that I much prefer to sleep under 5 stars and NOT 1 million, thanks very much.  Well, last weekend, I had to do a camping/fishing trip for the day and it wasn't completely horrible, but just reinforced that I'm ... just not that into it...

Following the last minute advice from the lovely Robyn of Rivergum Jewellery ... I took the opportunity to find pictures of things that were interesting to amuse myself and fill in the time.  Of course helping untangle kids fishing lines, preparing meals and cleaning up all featured in my fun filled weekend...

From now on, I'll leave camping to the pros...

Grace Coddington - Anna Wintour - Inspirational Women

Initially I wanted to tape the ABC documentary of "The September Issue" because I was curious about Anna Wintour - the Editor in Chief of Vogue Magazine.  Ms Wintour is an institution in the fashion world known for her pageboy bob and dark sunglasses.  She has a keen eye for fashion trends and supportive of younger designers and widely believed to be the inspiration behind one of my favourite movies... "The Devil Wears Prada".

After watching it last night, I'm still in awe of Ms Wintour, but also discovered the genius of Grace Coddington - the Creative Director of the magazine who is in charge of the majority of the photo shoots.

I think it was fabulous watching for anyone interested in the inside story on how these magazines are run.  I mean what girl DOESN'T love fashion and the opportunity to peek inside someone else's wardrobe????  (or in this case Vogue Magazine's SPECTACULAR wardrobes and 'going's on!!)

Whether you think fashion is great or goofy, it's a multi million dollar business and these women are well and truly the Queens of the Castle...  The film highlighted the often-tense relationship between Wintour and Coddington, although at the end of the day it's obvious they also hold a great respect for each other.

I've got "The September Issue" on tape and will be keeping it for a 'treat' to watch over and over again!  (when time permits...)
