dear photograph

I recently stumbled upon this amazing website.

Dear Photograph is the brainchild of 22 yr old Canadian, Taylor Jones.

Here's how it started.

Jones found a picture of his brother, taken in the same kitchen years earlier, sitting in the same spot he was now. Jones, meanwhile, was seated in the same position as his mother had been when she took the picture. He held up the old print, aligned it visually with its real-life background, and shot a new image of it.
When Jones posted the picture online, it quickly became Dear Photograph, a website where people can share a new photo of an old photo, with a brief message addressed to the original image, or more accurately, to the past itself.

I just chose some of my favourites on the Dear Photograph website and hope you enjoy them.  You can submit photos to his website, but they can't guarantee it will be posted.

I think it would be a fun project to do yourself and a lovely way to bring old memories to life.

Have fun.

great expectations

this is one of my favourite movies of all time...  did anyone else notice all the green?  I've never seen a film use a colour so predominantly.  would love to hear if anyone knows why...

anyway, it worked for me regardless and i could watch it over and over again!

creative sunday

i've decided to add my creations on here as well as my usual ramblings ...

so, today i was feeling in a very collagey mood ... (is collagey a word???)  well, that's how I was feeling anyway...

i'm calling it my  *Inspiration Tag* ... basically 3 cards collaged both sides on a ring so you can flip them over depending on what you want to look at and be inspired by.

it was fun.

Home Sweet Home

Have just returned from our 5 day trip to the big smoke...

Doctor ... check
Dentist ... check
Haircuts ... check
Fast Family Catch ups ... check

There wasn't much spare time in our days, but all went to plan (I am an organization freak) and even though it was rushed I did manage to sneak 2 hrs of 'speed shopping' in when we were in Brisbane.

My 'big' purchase was 2 shirts at David Jones (they're having a colossal sale).  Also fell in love with a beautiful hand crocheted scarf in another favourite city boutique,  but at $600 I thought I'd leave it there for someone else to go into debt...  Didn't help that my husband was waiting outside (doing a spot of people watching) and might have passed out if he saw the price tag ...

Also treated myself to a Starbucks Frappacino inbetween department stores and back at the motel swanned around in my white robe and slippers after the kids went to bed and flicked through as many channels on TV that I could find!

... well... had to make up for the camping trip now didn't I ???   (see a few posts back!)  I think the only changes I could have made to our trip to make it better would have been NOT to wear my 3 inch 'Nine West' heels while speed shopping... looked great, but boy I paid for the pain later!

.. and on that note ...

yum... the favourite ...  frappachino

ok. so I look a bit different to this but you get the idea ...

I found this the other day on Pinterest.  Don't they look great!???

It just looks like so much fun - I really want to try it, so hopefully the kids and I will get a chance on the school holidays... after our trip to the big smoke!

See you all back here on the 24th.

maypole memories

Do you ever have childhood memories that just pop into your head???

Recently I recalled "dancing the maypole" for some obscure reason.  The years 6 and 7 girls were the lucky ones and I remember feeling so excited when my classmates and I were finally old enough to be the maypole dancers in our primary school ... way back when...

Does anyone even do the maypole anymore?  It seems so old fashioned just thinking about it, but how lovely it must have been for mum and dad to watch us.   So very sweet and genteel - right up there with playing a game of croquet on the lawn with cucumber sandwiches...

I remember, depending on the dance, different patterns were created with all the pretty ribbons  around the maypole so it was very important not to make a mistake in the dance.

I found this picture on google and while it's not Australian does gives you the general idea.  Must see if mum's got any photos of my sister and I 'doing the Maypole' in her archives - would be great to show our children how cool their mum was ... back in the '70's.

Incidentally ... would love to hear if anyone else has danced the Maypole before!

good day for kite flying ...

It's blowing a gale here today.
Good for:  kite flying/drying clothes on the line.
Not so good for:  wearing pretty frocks at a garden party.

Think I'll spend the rest of the day in my studio, kitchen (feed the hungry troops) then venture out later this afternoon to grout one of my mosaic pots.

Have a nice Saturday ...
