Taking dkshopgirl to the Richmond Field Days ...

Markets ... I love going to them ... but never imagined one day I'd be actually AT one with my OWN stall !!!   Last weekend was the Richmond Field Days and I had been asked earlier this year,  if I would take my pots and pieces and have a stall there ...  Ooh .. um .... well ... not sure ... I was a bit nervous about how my work would be received, but after some encouragement decided I would give it a go ...

did I really agree to this ??? how much STUFF am I taking ???

ok ... car is finally packed ... sorry kids, you'll have to get a lift with Dad ... (who is taking my tables for me !)

After one hour of driving, Lilly and I came to  the tiny town of Nelia ... the family of Brolgas by the amazing Sue Tilley...

Another hour later, I'm here and VERY much appreciate the fabulous spot I was allocated ... concrete floor AND a roof !!! thank you Richmond Field Days Committee ...
got my big table set up ...

Guestroom now has a new home !

... and bathroom is gone too !

little old me doing my 'shopgirl' thing ... loving the chance to wear my pretty apron ♥♥
the drive home ..

yep ... drought is in full swing ...

the tiniest bit of rain made some new 'tracks' on the road ...

the stones you can see on this road - (which is a road from Nelia to our place) are actually cobble stones from the original road that the Cobb and Co mail coaches used to run the mail back in the late 1800's ... so there's some history for you ...

... and these rocks to the side of the road (in the same place) are all that remains of an old pub that used to be the Kabibe Mail change (where they used to change the horses over for the mail coach)...

pretty amazing ...

... part of our road ... big sky ...

the kids call these 'Toy Story' clouds ('cos they look like the clouds in the movie)  ... we love them ...

almost there ... my welcoming committee side of the road ... and the telephone tower in the distance ... the kids call it our Eiffel Tower ... ♥♥

beating the traffic ...

Home Sweet Home ... time to unpack !

I now have a new-found respect for anyone who's ever done a market before ... there is a LOT of work and organizing that goes into getting things ready to sell...  I was really happy with what I sold which included my mosaic chair, a few signs, 2 of my pots and various other goodies ... Thank you to everyone who popped in and said hello ♥♥

the long drive home ...

i thought for any non-Australians... or even Australians who have NEVER lived in the bush, it might be interesting to see some shots from my long drive home ...

hmm... firstly the awesome view from my motel room (Magnetic Island) ..

... doesn't everyone love a sunrise???  i was in Townsville getting some much needed jobs done on our school holidays ...
... then came the long drive home.  Oh great, a road block already!!!

i stopped for smoko (morning tea) at Pentland ... quaint caravan park ...

... i thought the clouds looked nice here ... (through my bug smattered windscreen)

... approaching Richmond ... dinosaur country ...

... all fuelled up again and heading home ...

... more interesting clouds ...

... passing Maxwelton - population - 2 ...

... finally got to Nelia - population - about 5 ..plus 9 geese and 2 dogs ... time to turn North now ...

... the 100 yr old post office at Nelia ... I stopped to again stretch my legs after a 7 hr trip ... and briefly saw one of the locals.  Georgi has managed to get a grant for a sculptural artist to come out to Nelia in May - Wow!  So there... art even in remote places like this - how great is that? The sculpture will be two brolgas (native birds to the area) and their nest.  (Will try and get some pictures to blog about the next time I'm driving past.)

... only 2 more hours to go - boo hoo... the bitumen runs out soon after Nelia ...
... dangerous wheeltracks - created by vehicles driving in the mud during the wet season.  they can turn your vehicle over if you get caught in them driving too fast.... i'ts ok... i'm a granny driver, so no worries here ...

... eagle flying away from some road kill ... yep - it's one of about 5 million kangaroos that live out here.  road kill is normal driving in the bush.
extreeeeeemly bad cattle tracks on the road now - VERY bumpy to drive on... cattle tracks are created when the cattle walk over the road in the wet season ... the road will be graded soon so will be much better to drive on .

... and finally - our driveway - home sweet home.

hope you enjoyed driving in the bush ...

~ happy days ~
