A couple of years ago, I felt swamped by life - kids, helping run a business, staff, homeschooling, being a mum and wife in general. It wasn't until late November in 2009 that I realised I had forgotten to look up and notice our beautiful 40 yr old Jacaranda tree (which had been in full flower in October!)
The following year it was killed by white ants and fell over in one of our storms. In my lifetime there will be no chance of having another one as spectacular.
Every time I see where it was I feel that twinge of regret.
Now, I consciously try and make a point of seeing and hearing things around me - whether it's in nature, something the kids say or listening to a good interview on ABC radio ... no matter how 'busy' I think I am; and I think my life is so much richer for it.
